I’m in admiration of Substack contributors who have the gumption to ask for support up front. I have no hesitation requiring 50% deposits on big commissions, so I shouldn’t be shy about asking for what everyone says is a cup of coffee a day. It feels a bit like begging, but everyone’s doing it so why not me? Chose a level and I’ll send you a fine art print, either 9.5x6.5” or 13x9.5,” depending on which level. Shipping and appreciation included.
Old work
My installation about the wildfire in Paradise, the Camp Fire, was in the spring of 2019. Then Covid hit. I had the privilege of making a painting of the American River for the Water Forum, reproduced as a huge mural on the side of the Sacramento County administration building downtown. This was almost a one-hair brush kind of experience, working at one-inch scale to represent twenty-nine creatures in the American River, day-by-day, alone in my studio, not seeing my kids for eleven months. This painting saved me.
Like this image as a print? Same offer as above.
Of course, if you want the image as a mural, I can make that happen…for a bit more $$.
Thus, I haven’t participated in a gallery exhibition since 2019, including the second installation of “Simple Objects” at the Sutter County Museum. This felt weird because I’d had almost annual “one-man” or group shows since the mid-80s.
New work
So this week I called my beloved gallery owner, D Neath. I’ve known her since the 80s: a person of great energy, integrity and imagination. And slipped into the next exhibition, opening July 31.
Mid-century minimalism in architecture? Yes, please–in photography.
Visiting my friend Jane at her incredible home in Baja in 2015. Not a new image, but a new iteration. Shot with an iPhone 6 (OMG!): eons ago in tech terms–and thus a bit grainy in the low light of the stairs image. But I’m not one for perfection.
I also delivered a few ceramics pieces for her small space section. Bees and creatures, abstracts, and little shot cups perfect for tequila. Contact gallery here after July 31st.

Greeting from the otter, and more about the American River again soon.
wooow, LOVE the photos.
